This is the first edition of the title "Please Don't Go" [the author used the name Elizabeth Benning for that edition, or that may have been the person that editied it).
In this edition the ending is not near as drastic. Perhaps since eating disorders were/are becoming more prevelent in our society the book was given a harsher ending so that the problem would be taken more seriously.
