The plot twist was not revealed until the end of the book. It was surprising to see how the expectations of sexism in the workplace was represented 20+ years ago. Someone from Jess Koster's self absorbed family, her law office, or boyfriend should have realized she needed help and demanded she visit the nearest psychiatrist's office quickly. She should have been quarantined there until she got the help she needed. Jess had reason to be anxious, but her bizarre symptoms did not match the problems in her life.
