From the front flap: "Here are the letters of a tormented genius of the theatre to his thrid wife, a young Norwegian actress. The renowned dramatist August Strindberg and the newly acclaimed actress Harriet Bosse met in 1900 in Stockholm. Soon Strindberg was wooing her stormfully and in 1901 they were married. The following year their daughter was born. A few years later they separated, and in 1908, when the letters break off, Harriet Bosse married another. Included in this collection are nine letters from the young actress to the much older, established dramatist." The emotionally revealing missives from Strindberg are described as "strange love letters." Interestingly, Harriet Bosse (born in 1878) was alive when this book was show more published in 1959, and Arvid Paulson -- a noted translator of Strindberg's plays -- was asked by Ms. Bosse to translate this collection of correspondence. show less
