An excellent guide to have at your fingertips if you, like me, brew a pot of echinacea at the first sign of a cold, chop up ginger root for tummy troubles, etc.--if you would rather have an ounce of plaintain in your cupboard than Sudafed PE, this is the book for you. Likewise, if you would like to be the kind of person mentioned above, this book will go a long way toward getting you there.
Gift from my mother. I'm skeptical of the purported remedies, but I am quite intrigued by pharmacognosy (deriving medicines from natural substances) so I skimmed it. Includes some things which are said to be myths (bilberry improved vision of WWII fighter pilots) but anecdotes such as ginseng in both America and Asia being similarly named to mean "like a man" is fascinating.
I'm going to use this book to begin creating my own tea blends. Informative without being overwhelming.
