I really have not read a Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman book that I have not liked and this series is right on point. I read these books back some years ago in middle school but re-reading them now I am really enjoying them. Simkin would have to be my favorite character but they are all well developed and the plot and storyline are fabulous. Ready to start the third one now and just found out there was a fourth one realeased ten years after these were so gotta find that one too. no reviews | add a review

Born without magic, Joram was one of the Dead, denied the throne of Merilon. For years, he lived among outlaws, surviving by wit and sleight-of-hand. Now, wielding the powerful, magic absorbing Darksword, Joram retums to the enchanted Kingdom that once was his home to win revenge and claim his birthright. Here he will test Bishop Vanya and his fierce army of Duuk-tsarith in a battle unlike any their world has known. Joined by the scholarly catalyst Saryon, the young mage Mosiah, and the trickster Simkin, Jorma confronts the shattering secret of his past and discovers the ancient prophecy that puts the fate of the world in his hands--the hands that forged the Darksword. Joram, and the little innocent girly, are the gag-worthy successor of Romeo and Juliet, and the precursors of Edward and Bella.
The story overall screams "Generic Fantasy". So you'll enjoy it but not be blown away. Kind of like a hamburger at McDonalds. It is "food". Good thing this is only a trilogy." ( )
