Frank and Joe Hardy hear through a friend that a real Chinese junk is available for purchase in New York City. The boys think this might be a fun summer project, fixing up the boat and offering passenger ferry service to Rocky Isle, so they decide to go buy the boat. But they’re not the only ones interested in it…and the other parties seem to have harmful intentions toward the Hardys for refusing to sell up.
I found this book thin and implausible, and riddled with stereotypes. It consistently refers to all of the characters from China as “the Chinese”, and the Hardys’ convenient-for-plot-purposes friend, Jim Hoy, is nearly always referred to as “the Chinese-American lad”. The writing is threadbare, and the dialogue tags (he show more insisted, she reminded, they chuckled, he grinned) are irritating. And the wish-fulfillment energy of these books was particularly strong when the boys went to get their boat pilot licences; how can you have “a perfect score” on a medical examination for that kind of thing? I found that line extremely annoying for some reason.
So in short, don’t read this book. There are better Hardy Boys books. show less

I like this book because you can't tell what is going to happen next in the story, and it's always intense in fights or when they're sluething. This book is A.R. I think this book is comfortable to me.
this book is a book for not only mystery lovers but any one looking for a quick read book. It has suspense, and there is never a good time to put it down.
enjoyed this book. ;d

Franklin W. Dixon Franklin W. Dixon is actually a pseudonym for any number of ghostwriters who have had the distinction of writing stories for the Hardy Boys series. The series was originally created by Edward Stratmeyer in 1926, the same mastermind of the Nancy Drew detective series, Tom Swift, the Rover Boys and other characters. While show more Stratmeyer created the outlines for the original series, it was Canadian writer Leslie McFarlane who breathed life to the stories and created the persona Franklin W. Dixon. McFarlane wrote for the series for over twenty years and is credited with success of the early collection of stories. As the series became more popular, it was pared down, the format changed and new ghostwriters added their own flavor to the stories. Part of the draw of the Hardy Boys is that as the authors changed, so to did the times and the story lines. While there is no one true author of the series, each ghostwriter can be given credit for enhancing the life of this series and never unveiling that there really is no Franklin W. Dixon.
