When I was younger,it was Leonard Cottrell and his books about Ancient Egypt,Greece and Rome, that led me to an interest in Archaeology. In particular, his volumes about Egypt, including this one - 'The Mountains of Pharaoh' - . In the introduction Cottrell writes "Beginning a book on the Pyramids of Egypt is like being asked to describe the sun or the moon. During the past five thousand years, millions have seen them;thousands have written about them. Around me as I write are scores of books, some of them by learned men who have devoted a lifetime to the study of these monuments -"
Certainly Cottrell writes for the more general reader, but his enthusiasm always shines through and I for one will always be grateful to him for introducing me to show more this most fascinating of subjects. show less
