Has lots of fun poems for kids in second and third grade. The poems are about magic, animals, families, and songs, with colorful pictures on every page. Teachers can read some poems aloud, and then let kids explore the book and write their own poems. Great for a poetry unit! I would say it is for primary grade and also Intermediate level
This book of poems would be appropriate for second and third graders. Younger children would probably be able to relate to many of the poems. I think it would be good for teachers to introduce as well as read a couple of poems to the children first and then have them explore it on their own. The book is filled with a collection of poems by different authors. The book includes poems about magic, animals, families and songs. Also colorful illustrations fill each page up.
Uses in the classroom:
1. After reading a couple of poems out loud I would pass the book around and have children look through it. If they find something interesting I would have them share with the class.
2.After each child looks through the book I would have them pick a show more poem they like and write a poem of the same category. show less
Watercolor illustrations on large glossy pages, poems selected for their read-aloud appeal, and a wide range of kid-friendly topics make this anthology a winner.
Primary to Intermediate
A book of poems about animals, people, real life things and made up things, but lots of different people
This book gives me Anamalia vibes, at least in the illustrations. I wish I had time to read the whole thing. This'd be fun to read a poem a day in my classroom.
Totally not the audience for this book but it’s on 1000 Books to Read Before You Die.

Widely anthologized, Kennedy's poetry may not be as influential among contemporary poets as others' because of his preference for, in his words, "old-fangled structures most poets have junked these days." As Kennedy's comments on his verse suggest, his poetry is witty, concise, and unpretentious. His subject matter is drawn from the everyday show more including his Catholic background and middle-class suburban life. Yet his concerns can be profound including death, violence, suicide, and Genesis. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
