I loved "The Brocaded Slipper" when my second-grade teacher read it to us all those years ago, and the entirety of the book is just as enchanting as I'd hoped it would be, delving a little deeper into a handful of familiar tales.
When I was in the fourth grade, I was elected to attend the young writers workshop. At the time, I was determined to be a writer when I got older, and eagerly agreed to attend.
The group I was placed in rotated through three or so writers, and one of them happened to be the author of this book. She had some inspiring words, and I bought her book at the 'meet the author' night. Thrilled that I had the opportunity, she signed it for me.
Now that I've grown and my tastes have changed (not that I had a passion for the book when I was younger), I don't enjoy reading the book as much.
The Brocaded Slipper is a collection of short stories. Each story is a Vietnamese version of Grimm's fairytales, gruesome endings and all. If you enjoyed reading show more Grimm's accounts of how Cinderella met her demise, then by all means try it out. show less

I liked it! I love fairy tales and these were well presented and satisfied my needs.
