Happy Endings about the summer of sixteen-year-old Mel, who has a part in a local production of an 1900s play about three Russian sisters (The Three Sisters) .While it is definitely a light "teen" read, it was also surprisingly engaging and insightful. It's an interesting look at not only the play, but acting and theatre, people and relationships, growing up and happy endings (or lack thereof).
The copy I first read was a tatted 180-page paper-back, with a bad-overly-colourful cover that belonged to a children's book, which deceptively screamed "this is a pathetic out-dated novel". I was very glad I looked beyond that and gave it a try - and I was really pleased to find a copy at a secondhand sale, in hardback (but still with an overly show more colourful cover. I suppose you cannot have everything.) show less
