I admit to giving up on this one after 50 pages without the remotest semblance of narrative momentum. Devote a whole book to a moment, fine with me. I certainly am interested in McElroy's works and was intrigued by the premise of this. But bring me somewhere with you. Hold my interest, dammit! I thoroughly enjoyed A Smuggler's Bible and will someday come back to Actress in the House, possibly when in a less foul mood, one more amenable to the density of McElroy's descriptors.
