RoanFoal's daddy's review: the first real favorite book he ever had. He tends to like books with either relatively realistic representations or actual photographs of animals. This has good photos of cute animals that focus on their faces. The animals are not newborns, but still are all clearly adolescents. Its format asks "What does the ____ say?" with a photo of the whole animal. You lift the flap on the opposite page to reveal a photo of the face of the animal making its sound with the sound rendered into words (yes, the rooster is reported to say cock-a-doodle-do rather than something more accurate). My wife is better with making the animal's sounds in a way that pleases him, but he almost always laughs at the lamb, the pig, the cow, and the goat. He want to be read this over and over, and was the first book for which he showed a real liking (probably around 5 months), and that has lasted into his 9th month. It is probably not his favorite still, but it still has pride of place of being his first favorite. ( )
