Leah Flood is tough but she knows it is time to go when a load of sand is dumped on her car and a coffin is put on top. She is an ex-cop, a police whistle blower and on the run. Six months ago her policeman colleagues abused her at a weekend away. After her former colleagues have been tried in court, they are out for revenge. Leah must stay one step ahead of these revengeful police.
It seems they are deadly serious because when she is hitching along the highway, the car giving her a lift is forced off the road, by men wielding shotguns, and the driver killed.
She checks to see if other the passenger is alright and finds Tess, the teenage girl grabbing a bag from the boot of the car, moments before it explodes. They drive away together and show more it turns out that Tess is only 17 and has been skipping school. She is an heiress from a wealthy, dysfunctional family, whose mother has hired a private detective to find her. The driver she was travelling with was a drug dealer. Leah takes Tess along with her, although she may be bad news. Soon they are on the run from the private eye, a hired hitman, drug supplier goons and corrupt police. Will Leah and Tess survive to find new lives and just who is the real target?
The story is fast, brutal and lean, with uncomplicated language.
