A new edition of the #1 NYT's bestseller by Mark Nepo, who has been called "one of the finest spiritual guides of our time" and "a consummate storyteller." Philosopher-poet and cancer survivor Mark Nepo opens a new season of freedom and joy-an escape from deadening, asleep-at-the wheel sameness-that is both profound and clarifying. His spiritual daybook is a summons to reclaim aliveness, liberate the self, take each day one at a time, and savor the beauty offered by life's unfolding. Reading his poetic prose is like being given second sight, exposing the reader to life's multiple dimensions, each one drawn with awe and affection. The Book of Awakening is the result of Nepo's journey of the soul and will inspire others to embark on their own. He speaks of spirit and friendship, urging readers to stay vital and in love with this life, no matter the hardships. Encompassing many traditions and voices, Nepo's words offer insight on pain, wonder, and love. Each entry is accompanied by an exercise that will surprise and delight the reader in its mind-waking ability.… (more)

I have finally spent exactly one year with this book – a meditational guide on spirituality, gentleness, and love for daily life. It brought peace to my evenings when I read the day's passage, and I am already excited to read it again for the next year. A great gift for anyone who is looking to open their heart. ( )

This is a book of daily meditation prompts and wisdom. I initially borrowed it from the library, but quickly realized I wanted to own it. ( )

This is the best "book of days" I've ever read, and I've read many over the years. Nepo is a poet, which makes his ability to turn a phrase magical. He's a philosopher, which makes the reader ponder deeply. And yet, the book isn't all heavy thinking. It makes me smile many mornings. A true pleasure to start my day with awakening. ( )

This is a book of short readings for each day of the year. At the beginning of each reading was a short quote. At the end of each reading there is a meditation. Perhaps 50% of these readings were very meaningful and helpful to me. I did a few of the meditations and those were excellent. My purpose for reading was to get my day started with a thought about being in the present. The book was very good for that.

I bookmarked quite a few readings that I want to go back to and do the meditation at a different time of day when I have longer to do it. ( )
