Description

Welcome back to Sherwood Forest... From the Reginetta Press Classics Restoration Progam come the Tales of Robin Hood by Alexandre Dumas. Virtually inaccessible in English, these two texts are edited and corrected by Reginetta Press, to sweep readers back to sunny Sherwood. Ride with the forever-young-heroes and heroines of Robin Hood's merrie band, and adventure into legend. In this first volume, The Prince of Thieves, Alexandre Dumas relates his own unique version of Robin Hood's origins show more and upbringing, how Robin was robbed of his heritage, how Robin becomes acquainted with Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck, and the Merrie Men, and the events leading up to Robin Hood's life as an outlaw. Alfred Allinson's translation lends enchantingly antique wording, transporting us to the charm of a Sherwood Forest of former, fanciful days. The language and plotting is out-dated, but it's still a page-turning adventure story of the stalwart forester, Robin, forced into outlawry by the evil Normans, but not exactly as many English writers have told it.

In this version, Robin is a noble-born child raised secretly to protect his life, and later his heritage; he already knows many of the main characters before being driven into Sherwood, and their stories form a large part of the narrative; he does love Marian, but there are other ladies vying for his affection; and a few more twists that would be considered much too convenient these days.

“Robin Hood” by Alexandre Dumas, published by Mondadori in 1965, is a reduced adaptation of the classic tale, intended for young readers. Although set in England, this edition is authored by the French writer Dumas. The illustrations by B. Boldrini vividly bring the story to life, capturing the adventures and moral lessons of the legendary outlaw. Perfect for introducing children to classic literature, the book encourages imagination, courage, and a sense of justice.
Classic. One of the earliest book that got me into reading stories. Loved the adventure of Robin Hood and his stands against the sheriffs.

Little John, or the mery men of Sherwood forest”.
