The vampire chronicles were some of the first adult horror books that I ever read and from the start, I was captivated. Interview with a vampire hooked me in the way that only Rice can; her writing is alluring, dangerous, seductive, rather like her characters.
My favourite book of the chronicles is the vampire Lestat. Finally, the reader is able to see the story laid out in the previous book from the supposed evil doer’s perpective. We realise that Louis’ conversion played but a small part in the life history of Lestat. We travel back in time to France, to the mortal Lestat and his violin. We follow his life, his fame, his desire for power. The tale of the body theif links us with the Talamasca and also satisfies a reader’s craving show more for knowledge about the links between body and personality.
Rice is a mistress of fiction, history, magic, myth and storytelling. show less

This set of books by itself is a solid part of the Vampire Chronicles. Currently, as far as I know, there are now 14 or 15 books in the series, but the last few I read were pretty meh. This quartet can be read on its own, and represents some of Ms. Rice's better work. My favorite would have to be Queen of the Damned, but they're all pretty good (up to and including Blood and Gold)
This is possibly the best series ever written. I love the narrative way that Anna Rice writes, love the characters. It's a tale of epic proportions.
Highly recommended.

I like her ideas, but I wish her writing was better or that her editors would be more aggressive when reviewing her books.
This is the best series of books I have ever read. Anne Rice is amazing in the way she describes everything and makes you feel like you are there. I could read these over and over. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy.
I want to love all of these stories, but somethimes it seems like they are too verbose and slightly repeatative
Anne Rice is an amazing author, though there are flaws in some of her story lines. I agree with most of these reviews I have to say that if you have not read this series put it on your Christmas list. I have to admit I only got into the series after watching Interview With A Vampire. Though I have to say that The Vampire Lestat is my favorite book.
