This book is now one of my favorites of all time concerning living the Christian life. It took me awhile to get through this book, but I am so grateful I continued reading it. The Discipline of Grace helped me immensely in my relationship with God.

Each chapter was rich with helpful breakdowns of the truths of the Gospel and God’s Word. As I read, my desire to walk in God’s ways and grow in grace and the things of the Christian life was greatly helped.

I personally believe this book to be a must read for every believer. ( )

what a great book! while i wish i would have read it sooner, i know the Lord sovereignly planned for me to read it in this phase of my walk. what great reminders to live in response to His effective grace! a must read for all believers! "The pursuit of holiness requires sustained and vigorous effort. It allows for no indolence, no lethargy, no halfhearted commitment, and no laissez faire attitude toward even the smallest sin. in short it demands the highest priority in the life of a christian because to be holy is to be like Christ... God's goal for every Christian.... the pursuit of holiness must be anchored in the grace of God; otherwise it is doomed to failure." ( )

Hand in hand with other books on the spiritual disciplines, this brings the balance of recognizing that our disciplines are meaningless without the work of Christ; they must bring us closer to God to have purpose in our spiritual growth. While the author acknowledges that we have a role in disciplining ourselves in study, prayer, etc., he reminds over and over to stop putting the pressure on ourselves to perform and look to God and seek to develop our relationship with Him. Jerry "Bridges discusses how the same grace that brings us to faith in Christ also disciplines us in Christ, and how we learn to discipline ourselves in the areas of commitment, conviction, choices, watchfulness, and adversity.

If you’ve ever struggled with what your role is and what role God takes in your growth as a Christian, this book will comfort and challenge you as you learn to rest in Christ while vigorously pursuing a life of holiness." — Publisher's notes

To my dear wife
Jane,
whom God gave to me
in the "afternoon" of my life

And to

a "senior saint" who has been
a faithful prayer supporter
for many years

And most of all
"To him who loves us and has freed us
from our sins by his blood...
to him be glory and power
for ever and ever! Amen."
-- Revelation 1:5-6
First words
[Preface] Shortly after my book "The Pursuit of Holiness" was published in 1978, I was invited to give a series of ten lectures on that subject at a church in our city.
As I was sitting in the doctor's waiting room one day, my eye was drawn to a remarkable picture of a man being sculpted.
