It gets no better than to quote the blurb from this July 1953 impression: 'Thomas is a fussy, cheeky little tank engine who joins his friends, Gordon, Henry and Edward. In the end he proves himself a Really Useful Engine and is given a Branch Line all to himself'. This was well before Beeching.
Railway series miniatures #2. Boxed set of 4 titles: [1] Tank Engine Thomas Again; [2] Troublesome Engines; [3] Henry the Green Engine; [4] Edward the Blue Engline.
At the right age, superb.
I like Thomas. I like Thomas because I like it. The favorite part is the breakdown train. The breakdown train goes on a piece of grass where it's a field. You should read it if you want to.

W. V. Awdry was born on June 15, 1911 in Hampshire, England. He was ordained as a minister in 1936 and served as a vicar in many parishes. Fascinated by trains since childhood, Awdry told train stories to his young son, Christopher. When his son quickly pointed out discrepancies between his retelling of these stories, Awdry realized the importance show more of writing them down. His wife submitted some of the stories to a literary agent, and the hugely popular Thomas the Tank Engine series was created. Between 1945 and 1972, Awdry wrote twenty-six Thomas the Tank Engine stories, beginning with The Three Railway Engines and ending with Tramway Engines. His books have sold over 50 million copies and spawned an Emmy-winning PBS animated series. Fortunately for fans of the books, Awdry's son Christopher resumed writing the series. W. V. Awdry died on March 21, 1997. (Bowker Author Biography) show less

Your Loving Daddy - First words
- Thomas was a tank engine who lived at a Big Station.
- Quotations
- He was a cheeky little engine, too. He thought no engine worked as hard as he did. So he used to play tricks on them. He liked best of all to come quietly beside a big engine dozing on a siding and make him jump.
"Pee... (show all)p, peep, peep, pip, peep! Wake up, lazibones!" he would whistle, "why don't you work hard like me?"
Then he would laugh rudely and run away to find some more coaches.
"Well, little Thomas," chuckled Gordon as he passed, "now you know what hard work means, don't you?"
But for a long time afterwards the other engines laughed at Thomas, and said: "Look, there's Thomas, who wanted to pull a train, but forgot about the coaches!"
He worked hard—he knew now that he wasn't so clever as he had thought. - Last words
- (Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)Gordon is always in a hurry and does not stop; but he never forgets to say "Poop, poop" to little Thomas, and Thomas always whistles "Peep, peep" in return.
