Everyone knows that Robert Sabuda is bloody brilliant when it comes to pop-ups. Rather than collect them all, though, I have this one because it is just perfect for storytelling. It's especially nice how the reindeer really pop right out at you. I usually pop them again and again at my listeners. They gasp at the last scene when the whole little town pops up from the pages.
Such a wonderful classic story retold by the master of op-ups Robert Sabuda. This is a definite handle with care book but it is so gorgeous it is worth the extra effort. Children will love it but I suspect adults will love it even more. A true keepsake book.
This review is for "THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS"
By Robert Sabuda, original story by Clement C. Moore.
A tiny mouse family crafted in Sabuda's signature whites, awaken to Santa's reindeer on the roof, and Clement C. Moore's classic Christmas poem pops into life! Very intricate paper-engineering and outstanding design allow the colorful backgrounds and a Santa all dressed in red to bring life to the story. You will be amazed by the clock ticking toward midnight and the window shade raising on it's own! My favorite spread has to be the amazing final pages featuring Santa and sleigh flying away into a snowstorm, as the town sleeps far below.

Same old story with a few bland pop-ups. Not my favorite and definitely not interesting enough for a child. They're better off with a more colorful rendition.
These pop-ups are very nice: specially the one of the whole city at the very end.
Awesome.
