Lovely melodic text, evocative pictures, in this biography of a place, a community, a way of life.
Wonderful lyric language and stunning artwork blend to form an almost idyllic picture of Appalachian life, both years ago and today. You can hear the affection in the author's voice for this picturesque region of the U.S.
I enjoyed this book. What a celebration of of home. Appreciation and love shines through to the reader.
Cynthia Rylant and Barry Moser both grew up in Appalachia. Together, author and illustrator present us with a gentle yet poignant picture, in words and images, of the people of Appalachia--their homes, food, dogs, surroundings, and views of the world.
It's always interesting to read about how people in other parts of the world live, but this isn't the best picture book.
I fell in love with this sweet little book.
