Summary: This story is about a four year old boy named Max. His daddy is a fireman and his mother is a nurse. He got to go to both parents work places to see what both did at their jobs. There was a fire one evening and Max's dad got hurt while rescuing three children from the hotel fire. While Max's dad was in the hospital, Max was very worried. Max was dealing with different emotions about his daddy being hurt and in the hospital. He was angry not getting to go see him,and also worried and scared. But mom did take him to see dad as soon as he was better and at first was scared until he saw daddy smile. They were both glad to see each other and soon daddy was home and well again to play with Max.
Personal Reaction: I liked the story show more about Max because it is a story that most children can relate to. Maybe they have or have not had a love one in the hospital, but most have parents or families and can relate to Max's family life. Max being the same age as our students is another plus.
Classroom Extension Ideas: The children can play doctor in our dramatic area when in center time and then another week they can play fireman.
We can also talk about our feelings and when we have different feelings depending on the situation. show less
