This book gives the locations in the US and Canada (as of 1978) of over 3000 masterpieces by 50 great artists. There are two listings. The first lists the 50 artists with a brief bio and a painting or two and all the museums (listed by state) that have 1 or more of his paintings..The second listing gives each museum and all the artists in that museum.
There are several colored plates, one or two for each artist, interspersed within the artists section.
This information can probably be found on the internet for each specific artist or museum. There may also be a newer edition of this book; this is an updated version of a 1955 edition.
