It was a simple book but it moved me deeply. What a wonderful reminder that living is easy but loving is easier. If it's not then review and remove anything that is in the way. THAT'S the hard part.
There is some complex theology here but again, it doesn't have to be difficult. At the time I read it I understood it. But, the influence of this book inspired me to dig more deeply into my beliefs and then into the teachings of my church. I had gotten tied up in the history of the evil things done in its name. But I was reassured and reconnected to the deep beauty hidden at the core. Evil is most certainly there. But that shouldn't be shocking. Where else would it be but trying to hide what it cannot abide. Throw out those things that aren't show more in keeping with the most basic point.
Obviously, that doesn't mean ignore the evil. It must be faced, acknowledged and beaten from the door with the passion of our very core of humanity. Wherever one finds injustice, intolerance and inhumanity the response must be to get rid of it. Where we do another harm or pain then we must pursue the love we see modeled in the stories and passion demonstrated there.
Follow whatever is simple and whatever is tying us in knots is keeping us from that simplicity. What looks incredible and impossible turns out to be natural and peaceful when we just let it go. show less

First, I have to say unless you have an open mind about who God is this book will drive you nuts. I have friends who would be so offended by this book's portrayal of God that they probably couldn't have finished it. They are good people with a strong faith but are pretty close minded about the possibility of God being something other than what the bible says. This book makes him seem like a pretty loosey goosey laid back sort....the opposite of what the the bible portrays. I have a much more open mind about who God is...but hitched a little on a couple parts (like where God was like, eh...I make mistakes too). I have problems that this smart female character would not have like 10 millions questions for God...I mean seriously...if we show more are to believe God came into her life for the sake of her story...we might expect her to have a few more questions....
The print is large---think reader's digest large print style and not very long...so this makes for a pretty quick read. It didn't change my life but it did give me some things to think about. The message is good and the book is short and sweet so I recommend reading it if you have an open mind about your faith. It isn't profound...but it's worth your time. show less

God on a Harley by Joan Brady
Christine Moore, a surgical trauma nurse nearing burn out, returns to New Jersey and to her long ago job. Believing that she has finally gotten over a bad relationship with one of the staff doctors, she braves running into him again. After the fateful encounter, Christine decides to go out for a drink and runs into Joe. Joe is only there to help her understand how to best live her life. For Christine, there are only 6 commandments and she seems to be a very quick learner.
Very inspirational, not in a religious way that the title might imply. Everyone needs someone who believes in them and their right to be happy and content with their life. The life lessons in this book can be applied to anyone while the show more ideas, concepts and hopes can be a part of everyone. Joe gives another option for believing in God. This book encourages and enlightens without preaching with simple and light humor. This is a small book, a very quick and easy read with long lasting effects to anyone who takes it to heart.
For some, the definition of 5 star rating is if you would re-read a book...... I re-read this book every summer. show less

So yesterday I went to a book sale and I could not resist this book. The name just called to me and made me giggle. The name is God On A Harley by Joan Brady. The main character Christine Moore found her self moving to the Jersey Shore at thirty seven years old. She was unhappy with her career and really unhappy with her love life. She walks into a bar after a bad day at work she orders two drinks and meets a man that changes her life. He was handsome and drove a Harley. I liked this book I found myself learning from Christine. She learns how to let go and really live and love her self. I think the huge lesson for me was enjoying where you are at right now and not in a few months days show more or years. I wrote this quote from the book in my journal last night. “Live in the moment. For each one is precious and not to be squandered ’’. In life you find yourself ( at least I have) so busy achieving your goals that you miss the every day free and beautiful things I will look more at each day for the sights and sounds that are gifts that I have previously missed. This book is a good book and is a really quick read at only one hundred and forty seven pages. I would recommend this to every girl that has set by a phone and waited for that call, or every person so focused on working a lot never satisfied with what they have. It was a fun read as well. I read it in one day. I give this book three and a half stars. I rate books I read on a scale of one to five with five being the best. This book is was published in 1995 so if you are thrifty like me look for at garage sales, thrift stores or even second hand book stores. show less

What a good inspiration novel with a message. The author has a unique way of introducing people to God and his true love for us. Someone may read this novel, where they may not read a "Christian" book. I found it very entertaining. It was funny it parts and sad in others. It was a short read, I read it an afternoon.
A simple, swift read, but full of smart ways to live your life fully. You can see yourself in the examples.

- I'll be the first to admit I never understood why they call it The Garden State. I especially didn't understand why, after a seven-year sabbatical on the West Coast, I actually felt happy to be back in New Jersey.
- Last words
- (Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)I pulled the thick sterling silver medal around to the back and examined it in the glow of the stoplight. I couldn't quite make out the image on it, so I leaned into him for a better look. It was Joseph of Nazareth. And he winked at me.
