If God is our shepherd, how is it that we discover his leading in our individual lives? One answer from the author is that, "Guidance is the way in which God leads us as we think through the implications of his truth, and seek to find practical application of it in our lives. It requires familiarity with Scripture, and fellowship with the Spirit who alone knows the mind of God." Ferguson gives specific guidance for marriage and for work but constantly stresses for each decision the need for searching, listening, maintaining a fellowship with God, a willingness to obey and walk in the light that we have already been given.
