A fictional account of when Rembrandt travelled to England (based on a real life theory), interwoven with the story of a young woman working on restoring the house at which he once stayed. This book is part romance, part mystery, part art-history, in the great tradition of Byatt's 'Possession'. But unlike Byatt, Davenport seems unsure of whether his story is a great work of art-fiction or mere popcorn. Ultimately it is a fun read and I did learn a little about Rembrandt.
