Description

Jane Taylor is a slightly sociopathic Londoner who wants marriage and a baby in the worst way, and she's willing to go to over-the-top lengths to achieve her dream. When Jane thinks she's pregnant she tells everyone. When it turns out to be a false alarm, she assumes she'll just get pregnant, no one the wiser. But when that doesn't happen, well, of course she does what no one in her right mind would do: Jane decides to fake an entire pregnancy!

I always fall in love with her premises. This is the second book I read by her, and like A Little Change of Face, I loved the plot and loathed the heroine. Maybe it's the bitch factor, maybe I just don't care enough, but overall, it didn't have the punch I wish the book had. She certainly has a gift for borderline slapstick situations though. if you like chick lit with an over-the-top plot, this would be a good one.

Jane thinks she's pregnant and tells everyone she knows, including her boyfriend. She then gets her period, but decides to maintain the lie. No one could lie about this for the entire 9 months like Jane did, so the sheer unbelievable factor was one reason I disliked this book. Another reason is that Jane is not at all admirable and comes off as whiny, manipulative and disgusting. Most frustrating of all, the book ends abruptly with nothing being resolved
I guess the story was okay, but the main character was completely self-absorbed without a thought or care about how her behavior would impact anyone else. I wouldn't have wanted to marry her either.
It started out mildly amusing, but it became so ridiculous I had to put it down. Not recommended.
Picked it up and tried to read, but couldn't get into it. I decided since I had such a bad experince with "A Little Change of Face" also by Baratz-Logsted, I wasn't going to force myself to finish this book. I took it to the used book store for trade in on something I would enjoy reading!
