Alphaville [1965 film]

How do you rate something this strange? There are a lot of nice staircases. Staircases seem to be big part of the film. There is also a private eye or spy or whatever he really is trying to figure out what's going in a town apparently run by a computer with a very funny voice. Strangely compelling, but could have been much better with a couple more ounces of plot.

A secret agent investigates a city (or maybe a planet?) ruled by a computer.

A pretentious, boring mess.

2023 movie #186. 1965. A secret agent is sent to the planet Alphaville to overthrow its computer overlord, Alpha 60. A contemporary theme but a very hard movie to watch. French New Wave cinema at its “best”? Filmed in b/w, with no budget for special effects and no screenplay.
