This was part of the Danielle Steel "Golden Age" where her books really were page turners.
This one was a tear jerker. The main protagonist went through so much hell, including becoming disabled, you just read it and hope she gets something by the end. Her life was just a spiral down to a never ending bottom! In true Danielle Steel fashion, you get love, betrayal, loss, accidents, addictions, and everything in between for the main character to find her peace.
The television movie they made for this wasn't that great, and came after NBC stopped funding their miniseries they used to show on Sunday nights.

Samantha Taylor, better known as Sam, is a beautiful, talented woman with long, silver/blond hair who is the creative star at an ad agency in New York. She has everything she wants until her husband leaves her for another woman. Heartbroken, she takes a much-needed sabbatical to California, where she finds love again with Tate Jordan, a ranch foreman, who gives her the nickname, Palomino. But, just when Sam thinks she's found her second chance in life, she suffers an unspeakable tragedy and finds she must redefine herself again. I greatly enjoyed this rocky romance that ends well.
Fairly good plotting. Some abrupt transitions: From Samantha being annoyed with Tate to being in bed with him.
This book touches on several themes: The impact of divorce, the importance of work to identity, horses, living as a handicapped person.

Samantha was dealt a blow when her husband leaves her for another because she's pregnant with his baby.
She works in the advertising field and he works on air with a TV station. Her boss tells her to take at least time off til April and she heads to her best friends mothers ranch in CA. She had formed a very good relationship with Caroline when the daughter had died.
She loves getting up early to be a ranch hand and do a lot of physical labor. She knows just a few of the 20 hands.
She is able to confide in Tate Jordan who also has pain in the relationships he's had over the years.
He leaves and she returns to NY where she's in charge of a film, staging actors and then traveling to take photos of the scenes. She is show more at the last ranch and takes a huge stallion for a ride and gets injured..
