Would You Rather Be a Bullfrog? (Bright & Early Books)

Would you rather be a clarinet . . . a trombone . . . or a drum? (How would you like to have someone going boom-boom on your tum?) Beginning readers are asked to ponder these–and a host of other odd choices–in this charming, provocative book by Dr. Seuss that encourages children to let their imaginations fly.

First sentence: Up! Up! The sun is getting up. The sun gets up. So UP with you!

Premise/plot: Do you like getting up in the morning? The book is gentle prompting to do just that. "Up" being the prominent word of the entire book. But does the narrator himself end up getting out of bed? Read and see for yourself!

My thoughts: I liked the "twist" ending. I did. Overall, I liked this one fine. I didn't love, love, love it. But it's certainly an entertaining enough read.

Although this is not my favorite Theo LeSieg (Dr. Seuss), I think it would make a fun addition to a pre-k - 1st grade classroom. It asks the reader to think about if they could be one thing or another, which would you rather. It is a good book to use in talking about comparisons as well as in the end it is best to just be yourself.

Summary: Narrator asks the reader which it would like to be. The story goes through many different things, makes reader think about differences in objects.
