James Blish's novelizations of 21 of the original episodes. Blish was not exactly a Star Trek devotee at the time; in his one original novel, he even has Kirk calling McCoy "Doc". Horrors! His adaptations are competent at best, never inspired. These novelizations are mainly useful as a reference for trivia bets. Even his treatment of the best episode, "The City On The Edge Of Forever", takes the shine off Harlan Ellison's crystalline dialogue.
These are very short stories that correspond to some of the classic Star Trek episodes. There are way too many classic episodes to list them all, but included are The City on the Edge of Forever, The Trouble With Tribbles, The Last Gunfight, Amok Time, Spock's Brain, etc. Authors include Harlan Ellison and Theodore Sturgeon. This is must reading for any classic Star Trek fan.
