Widowed for 2 years, Annie Galloway is selling her big house and moving to a beach side cottage under the disapproving eyes of her in-laws. Annie has spent years protecting her husband's image and hiding his gambling addiction, but his death left her a mountain of debts which the house sale cleared. She is ready to move on but his family is not. Then she meets her new next door neighbor and begins to come alive. Sam Butler has left his high powered life on Wall Street and is renting while he decides what to do with his life. When he meets Annie he also comes to life. As these two work on a second chance at happiness the people around them have a lot of adjustments to make. This is a heart-warming story of love at first sight for 2 show more people with a lot of baggage. Some of the secondary characters were a bit annoying at the start, but the dog Max was a scene stealer. show less
Another of the author's wonderful books set in Shelter Rock Cove, Maine. Annie Galloway is a young widow, and Sam a man with no apparent means of support and a cloudy history. As the town watches and interferes, life happens.
I love Bretton's way of capturing our hearts for her oh-so-real characters and pulling us into their lives.

Free on Kindle. Could be spoilers. This was OK. The couple was perfect for each other, and the rich guy loved them both. She was a hero. He wasn't so much. But they both protected their families.
My review
Finally finding the home of your heart. Separately both Sam Butler and Annie Galloway find the place that will not be a constant reminder of their past failures, but also the place where two people who are not looking for new beginnings, find one, together.

Bit too much tell instead of show but good story
I knew when I first started it it would be one of those stories with a happy ending. I was losing interest when I reach the middle of the book but I hung in there and was pleased on the way it ended.
Annie’s husband dies and she moves into rich friend’s Warren’s shack; as does Sam who is hiding out because his company is being watched for embezzlement and he’s a witness.
