themulhern "King of Men" is a really unusual historical novel of the youth of Agamemnon, with meddling gods, most suitable for young adults. "The Windswept City" is a retelling of a small part of the siege of Troy, without any meddling gods, and possibly suitable for children. It's their contrasts which make the two books interesting.

A novel if considered suitable for children; but more of a novella if considered suitable for young adults. It's really on the border between the two.
Treece's usual style is very much in evidence; things are pretty bleak, people are slaughtered, a mythical story is stripped of its glamor and thoroughly historicized. However, the main character is a boy, and the ending is unrealistically positive. I guess you could shelve it in the children's section.

Warning: May contain spoilers.)So he turned and went from the bower, along the dark and echoing corridors, and so out into the yard, past the scattered heap of bronze that used to belong to old Talos, and on to the stable where Hippomedon seemed to be expecting him, thumping on the ground with his great impatient hooves.
