Brilliant! This book is a fun way to teach children about healthy choices. Rockwell takes the food pyramid and makes it fun. She stresses the importance of eating everything in moderation. Especially in today's unhealthy society, it is important for kids to realize that nutrition is vital for a healthy lifestyle. I would definitely read this to kids in a second or third grade science class or p.e. class when going over food.
This book was very helpful. I enjoyed this book for two reasons. First, the writing was organized and flowed. At the beginning, a healthy diet was encouraged then later the following this were different recipes giving correct portion sizes. Through the writing the reader was able to gain the importance of balanced meals and portion size when eating. The illustration supported this by showing measuring cups when preparing meals and how each item was measured out before being placed into a pot or pan for cooking, or after the meal was cooked, the correct proportion was placed on each individuals plate! This book encourages healthy diet, nutrition facts and all healthy eating habits!
i liked reading the book "Good Enough To Eat" for three reasons. First, I enjoyed how the illustrations resembled the text (ex. food makes you able to...then there are pictures that go along with the words grow, breathe, move, think, fight germs, stay cool, stay warm, heal, and live". Second, I enjoyed the important vocabulary that the book mentions. (ex. what happens when you digest food, types of food, the six kinds of nutrients and etc). Third, I like how detailed the illustrations are (ex. on one page there is a picture of a young girl and her digestive system and there are pictures of different types of food), "Good Enough To Eat" is a book about nutrition for children. It is an informational text that has great information on what show more to eat. It also includes a food pyramid and some easy recipes children can use. The big idea behind this book is that nutrition is important, especially for young children. In order for children to grow up and be healthy they need proper nutrition. show less
GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT by Lizzy Rockwell is a story that informs young kids to eat healthy and how to do so. It starts out by explaining that all living mammals get hungry and we all deal with it in different ways. Humans stomachs growl where as wolves will howl and babies will cry. It then explains that there are many different part to eating healthy such as not eating too many fats and that vegetables and fruits are better. It also went on to explain what our bodies do when we eat. Such as our mouths will chew up our food, and our stomachs churn the food into a thick fluid. The illustrations in the book are hand drawn with colored pencils. They add visuals to what the reader is reading which ends up being very helpful. This would be a show more good book to read to students to help explain a healthy diet. show less

I think this book is very useful in the classroom. It presents very valuable information in a fun and colorful way. There are multiple levels of text within the the book. Outside of the obvious text there are also speech bubbles and additional information the coincide with the illustrations.
Classroom Extensions:
1) Use the recipes provided in the back of the book to demonstrate a healthy diet
2) Have students keep a food/exericse journal for a given period of time ( the amout of time would show more depend on the age group) at the end of the time have the students compare with the information from the text and see what kind of changes they can make to make themselves healthier. show less

45 months - not everything in this book is completely accurate (dated) nor do we buy into carbs being that good for us compared to protein and fats but it's simple and easy for kids to understand and I think O got a lot out of it.
