Second in the Children of War trilogy this book continues Tamar Murdoch's story from 1914 onward. Tamar and husband Andrew are living comfortably at their sheep station Kenmore in the Hawkes Bay, but storm clouds over Europe begin casting long shadows. One by one her children are drawn into World War One. Her eldest child Joseph, who fought during the Boer War as a European, enlists this time in the newly formed Maori Battalion, whilst her other children either sign up to fight or nurse the wounded. The aftermath of these decisions will leave losses and scars on the family that may never heal, but also bring new relationships and grandchildren to the family.

Richly detailed with historical facts and events, this is a compelling series. show more The author has certainly done extensive research into the time period and this certainly shows. The story is well paced and entertaining. Highly recommended. show less
