The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis (XRAY)
XRAY: The are both based on a mythical world where the characters have a great adventure through struggle and battle. Mihte's Quest is a chiller where the danger is heightened.

This story has an unusual beginning. It introduces the characters like a movie through action showing their characters personalities in detail in a 'Home Alone' setting. Jack (11) is a dreamer, Jamie (13) is the responsible carer, and Ellie (11) is just a bit awkward with everyone. Besieged by bailiffs, police and captured by Social workers the heroes end up at their dad's house. After a little more character description, the children go boating, drown and end in the Underworld. They meet their nemesis face to face, escape and are set on a Quest they have to complete to get home. This is a thrilling, twisting plot where the most unlikely happens. It has similarities with the 'Lion the witch and the Wardrobe,' ending it battle scenes against overwhelming odds. Lots of magic and all the things you normally expect in a fairytale for older kids.
