I enjoyed this engaging and fast-paced mystery novel. The characters and plot twists kept me turning pages until the very end, and I was actually surprised when the murderer was revealed. Good analogies and a bit of humor help as well. All the subplots are of course connected, and they all converged. It all held together and remained engaging until the end.
I deducted a star because some characters lack depth. A quirky writing habit I saw was that the characters keep using each other's names in dialog, much more than is usual in normal life, at least in my experience. Perhaps this is meant to add emphasis, but I just found it annoying.
All in all, a good read.

P.I. Regan Reilly gets a call from a friend in LA to help her find an ex-boyfriend who owes her money. Jack is out of town so Regan accepts and heads off to her old stomping grounds. Abigail insists that because she was born on Friday the 13th she is cursed and it sure seems like bad luck follows her. Once Regan lands in LA she finds out that Abigail is suspected in a murder, she has lost her apartment, there is an earthquake so the two of them have to drive all over checking out the houses she is housesitting and the owner of the house where they are staying has a stalker ex-wife who is released from jail. All this combines to make Regan's job more complicated.
Regan Reilly, PI, is trying to get her things organized in a storage facility during a snowstorm. Her new husband is in Florida on police business. As luck would have it, a friend in LA called requesting help tracking a former boyfriend who borrowed $100,000. It was money which Abigail's grandma had given her for a down payment on a home. So, Regan jumped on a jet and headed west to sunshine. As Abigail's bad luck would have it, Abigail becomes a person of interest in a murder of a wealthy old man, which she used to know. Regan has her hands full with stalkers, lost movie scripts, the police, and finding the missing boyfriend. It was a quick short read.
You think you've got bad luck. Try being born on a Friday the thirteenth and then have every important event tarnished because something bad happens just before and thwarts you're going to it or doing it!
This is what happens to a friend of Regen Reilly's and Regen is off to California to help her friend out. What starts out as a simple case of getting money back turns to murder and a stalker (though not the murderer) as well. And all this takes place in just three days!

Abigail believes she has been cursed since the day she was born on Friday the 13th. Just days before her birthday, Abigail's birthday she calls upon a former neighbor and private investigator friend Regan Reilly to return to California and help her solve her latest dilemmas.
