We are back on Akora (yay!), where Gavin Hawkfore, son of Royce and Kassandra, is investigating his theory that the volcanic disaster that blew Akora apart three thousand years ago is about to happen again. On the deserted island of Diematos, he encounters Persephone, who has been living there in solitude since her mother's death many years before. He is impressed by her self-sufficiency and her intelligence and though she's initially wary, they work together to gather more evidence of the coming disaster. Their next challenge will be convincing the people they need to heed their warnings and save the land from destruction. (And also, uncover the secret of why Persephone grew up in isolation, but that was pretty obvious from the show more beginning if you're paying attention to this series).
These books are so great. Another strong, intelligent, independent, self-sufficient heroine who is not conquered by the hero but bolstered and supported and invited into a true partnership. This is really what I like to see. I'm sad that the next one is the last.
