Paubi is a dark witch betrayed by her husband and left to burn in a horrible house fire. Through the strength of her rage she is able to pull herself to the sea and tumble into the water. When she wakes she finds herself on a distant shore in another time. Saved by a reclusive millionaire widow, Matthew Fairchild, Paubi finds herself feeling emotions long forgotten and trusting once again. Matthew is haunted with guilt by the suicide of his pregnant young wife and when he pulls Puabi out of the sea he is shocked by the similarity in their appearances. Both of them can feel the tugs of destiny bringing them together, but will it be enough to overcome the sins of their pasts?

This short novellette did a very good job on taking a small show more amount of writing and turning it into a decent, fleshed out story. Although the twists were basically pretty easy to figure out I still thought it was a worthwhile romance/mystery with a dash of the supernatural. Certainly the right choice for something quick and engrossing to hold your attention. show less
This was a great story. I am not a huge fan of Romance novels and I really don't read them much. I didn't realize that this book was a Romance book, if I had know it I would have just put it back down and not thought another thing about it. But I didn't know that it was a Romance book so I began to read it and once I realized that it was Romance I could not put it down. It turned out to be a really good book I am glad that I began reading it. Love the ending. :)

It's about a witch that is to escape into the sea to get away from her husband the is trying to kill her. She is rescued by a millionaire and he nurses her back to health. They end up falling in love with each other (Like every other Romance book out there) and the life happily show more ever after. But it still was a very nice read. show less
IMMORTALITY originally released as a short story in the OUT OF THIS WORLD anthology in 2001. When her beloved husband betrays Puabi to be with his mistress, it was all she could do to pull herself from her burning home and crawl to the cliffs near her house where she falls into the ocean. Badly burned and suffering from smoke inhalation, she still hopes to survive, but if she doesn't at least she has the satisfaction of knowing her husband won't find her body. This book completes the series that Maggie Shane wrote about a group of immortal "high witches". If you have not read the series, they are "Eternity", "Infinity", "Destiny", and "Immortality". The books do follow each other, so I would recommend reading them in order.
