'A College Mystery' is very much in the tradition of M.R.James. In addition to being a ghost story (or is it ?) it is a murder mystery too (or is it ?) It concerns various sightings on a Cambridge college lawn,at night, of a figure in old-fashioned dress, who walks a certain route and then is seen no more until a later occasion. It also concerns the rivalry of two eminent members of the University, both in their careers and in their affections for the same woman. This rivalry ends in tragedy for both of them. ( )
