Okay, now that I've finished this gets a meh. I never really got invested with the characters, particularly the dashing hero. The bad guys are SUPER EXTREMELY VERY BAD, the heroine is unceasingly described as pale and slender and in possession of pale and slender limbs/throat/whatever, and the hero has lots of scars. It just wasn't for me. The writing is fine, and if you're a fan of historical romance/highwaymen/the aftermath of the French Revolution, it might work better for you.
Thoughts while reading:

The heroine's plight reminds me a tiny bit of [a: Paula Volsky|261937|Paula show more Volsky|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/f_50x66-6a03a5c12233c941481992b82eea8d23.png]'s [b:Illusion|467457|Illusion|Paula Volsky|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1280002585s/467457.jpg|895830], but I loved that book so perhaps this one is appealing less because of the comparison. show less
