Description
One of the most well-known and loved stories of Jesus's ministry is the encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. Now the creative mind of Diana Wallis Taylor imagines how the Samaritan woman got there in the first place. Marah is just a girl of thirteen when her life is set on a path that will eventually lead her to a life-changing encounter with the Messiah. But before that momentous meeting she must traverse through times of love lost and found, cruel and manipulative men, and show more gossiping women. This creative and accurate portrayal of life in the time of Jesus opens a window into a fascinating world. Taylor's rich descriptions of the landscapes, lifestyles, and rituals mesh easily with the emotional and very personal story of one woman trying to make a life out of what fate seems to throw at her. This exciting and heartwrenching story will fascinate readers and lend new life to a familiar story. show lessTags

NCLA Review - This story of the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at Jacob’s well does not portray her as the promiscuous woman we might infer from reading the Gospel of John. Marah had been married five times and she was living with a man not her husband; however, her story is survival of circumstances beyond her control. Did not God order lives according to His plan? Then she met Jesus. His words cleansed her from all the fears, the guilt, and the bitterness of her past. She could reach out to those who had persecuted her for so long. “Come and see!” Marah’s fifth husband’s return, after an extended absence, suggests he is the “Good Samaritan” in Luke’s Gospel and the only one of ten lepers returning to thank Jesus for show more healing. Easy to read, Journey to the Well is both creative and informational in portraying the daily life of the Samaritans. Rating: 4 —CRP show less
