This book is about a boy who goes on a journey around the area he lives to try to find "warm." He finds many different locations that he feels will provide him with "warm," and deals with being kicked out of these locations by various things that threaten him.
I love this book because it useees descriptive language and pictures to depict what "warm" means to the boy. At the end of the story, the place that he finds "warm" is with his family, cozy in their bed. This book gives readers a chance to think about what warmth means to them.
This book could be used to teach a lesson on how to describe places that are "warm." Students can continue the story by writing their own page about finding warm and a page about the dangers in each location.

A boy doesn't want to share the family bed, so he wanders outside the cave encountering various dangers. He finally returns and crawls into the family bed, the ultimate "warmth". I loved the illustrations, beautifully done. I found the story underwhelming and was disappointed that a Paleolithic boy was interacting with dinosaurs.
This was a cute book that I would read to my students for fun and to show them that being with their family is one of the best places you could be. There are many scary and or dangerous things outside of your home, in the world, but you can count on your family to be there to help and protect you as best as they can.
Bad enough Mayhew says 'saber tooth tiger' instead of smilodon, but then to include a dinosaur! Just, no, I don't care that the rest of the book is cute... the bad science is egregious and unacceptable. Sorry.
This book is about a boy who wants to be warm but does not want to share it with anyone. This book shows that being with their family is one of the best places you could be. You can count on your family to be there for you when the world gets to be a little scary. This book would be a good book to discuss about families and the importance of family to them.
