Harold Bloom has been an informative and reliable critic of canonical literature for over fifty years. His close reading of all genres and careful analysis of the opinions of other critics uniquely qualify him for the present work.
As informed as his opinions may be, he is careful to point out that other interpretations are possible and may be equally valid - an accurate and respectable viewpoint. Were it not for so many typographical errors, some of which obscure his meaning, this book would be ranked higher.
