Another easy read from Katie Fforde! Ok, so the scenarios are a little far fetched, and the women seem to be excellent at anything they turn their attentions to, but still it is a good story. The characters are well written and your invested time and emotions are not wasted. It is a holiday read (but most of this genre are to be fair) but one of the better ones. Along with Jenny Colgan, Fforde has mastered this genre and gives you exactly what you want in a well written way. ( )

Nel is settled into middle aged singlehood - she's busy with her farmer's market and the local children's hospice and her almost grown children. Then along comes the rich neighbors who are going to build houses where the farmer's market is held. Nel gets busy rallying the troops to save her community and finds herself wildly attracted to the "enemy" lawyer. I really liked Jake's personality and how he treats Nel. This was a great "feel good" story. ( )

Didn't like this one as much as [a:Katie Fforde|86097|Katie Fforde|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1270774921p2/86097.jpg]'s other books. Not sure why. Probabbly because Nel was always a bit down on herself, where Katie's other characters don't seem to have that trait. ( )

Paradise Fields by Katie Fforde is a contemporary with chick lit appeal. I've only just found Ms Fforde's books and have enjoyed the two I've read so far. Paradise Fields is really engaging and fun. The characters are real and likable. I thoroughly forgot the world while reading this book! Bliss. ( )

Book description
It's not as if Nel Innes doesn't have enough on her plate already: keeping track of her unnervingly beautiful teenage daughter, sorting out a house full of animals, and organizing a farmers' market in the picturesque Paradise Fields. The last thing she needs is yet another complication in her life, but when her old friend Sir Gerald dies, and his son, Pierce, accompanied by his glamorous American wife, takes possession of the property, it seems that preserving the Fields is not on his list of priorities.

Nel takes up arms, determined to fight for the meadow and the market she loves. But who can she trust? She's pretty sure her friends Sacha and Vivian are on her side, but her sensible boyfriend of six months, Simon, an estate agent, is less encouraging. And then there's Jake, the infuriating yet attractive stranger who surprised her with a kiss under the mistletoe at the last market before Christmas. Maybe she's been a celibate widow for a little too long....
