An incredible and difficult story that bring to life broken people and cultures, horses to be broken, people's spirituality held tight, broken open and bound up again. An intricate story of class and race, illness and healing, deep loss and hope. Highly recommended.
Parts of the story were enjoyable - descriptions of life in an around Stan's, the paraplegic medicine man, orbit. I got a bit annoyed by her flakiness. The cruelty to animals where intentional or just out of stupidity was disturbing.

Once I realized the book was truly about the author's journey and not about Stan Addison, I really liked it.
