C+ (Okay).

A teenager and a vampire fall in love.

I expected this to be bad, and it is a badly-made movie, but it's bad in very different ways than I expected. It feels like it was filmed in a couple weeks on a daytime TV budget. But it's not the typical, bland Hollywood movie you usually get when something's based on a popular book. It's moody, and it's kind of weird (albeit not always intentionally).

Teen Bella starts at a new school and is entranced by fellow student Edward, who turns out to be a vampire. This movie is incredibly popular with teen girls, perhaps because they can easily implant themselves on the personality-less Ella and imagine having a hunky guy who is super powerful and rich be in love with them. There are a few action scenes, but most of the movie consists of Ella biting her lip while people stare at each other. Edward also does some things that seem stalkerish rather than romantic. On the plus side, the soundtrack is pretty awesome. If you aren't sure if you will like Twilight, you probably won't, but there are millions who already do.

G-d help me, I actually enjoyed this book. Not because it was profound or well-written; it was just amusing escapism. I was a literature major in college (English and Russian), so don't judge me. I did my time with the greats!
This movie based on the popular novel by Stephanie Meyer can't seem to decide what it is. The grey lighting and the setting of the Pacific Northwest has the feel of a made for tv horror movie while the main character Bella's voice over adds the feeling of a melodrama. Bella is the new girl in Forks, Washington and the first part of the movie follows her moving in with her father and slowly making friends as she's fascinated by the mysterious Cullens and especially Edward. Everything changes when Edward confesses to her that not only is he drawn to her but he's also a vampire along with the rest of his family. After this point, the movie loses its way as there's a semblance of some bad vampires who are causing trouble in town and Edward show more and Bella face some danger.

In the end this movie will be popular with the middle school and high school students who enjoyed the book and it does a decent job of showing the confusion in a teenage girls head. Where it fails is in terms of the vampire horror element, because the plot feels added on and most of the vampire effects simply serve to make the vampires seem odd rather than scary.

I'm happy to see one of my favorite books adapted to the screen, but there are so many things they got WRONG with this movie that it only makes me angry. The movie is OK---if you haven't read the book.
Wasn't as true to the book as I would have liked and they left ouf a few of my favorite lines, but overall it was amazing!

Based on first novel by Stephanie Meyer. There are a total of seven novels and novellas in this most popular series - all highly recommended.

FROM AMAZON: About three things I was certain.
First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood.

And Third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, show more but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife, between desire and danger. show less
