Sweeping history of every major (and almost major) studio from the initial animated shorts to 1980, and with the even more valuable comprehensive list of every release for each studio. A must for fans of real animation, and of the later minimalist stuff that came out in the 1960s. ( )

A real head-trip for someone who grew up on these cartoons. The studio filmographies are indispensable, especially (for me) the Warner Brothers one. The author is more famous for his late, great tome on movies on TV. ( )
