I can best copy some of what the publisher writes on the back cover of this little book. Rudyard Kipling was born in India in1865 but in 1871 he was sent to England to live with a foster family - an unhappy experience which is chronicled in 'Baa Baa, Black Sheep. ... Kipling's only son died in the Great War, and 'The Gardener' is an allegory of his suffering as a parent. ( )
