I had heard good things about this author and some of her work has made excellent television viewing. How sad to be so disappointed.
The work itself is beautifully written with the flow able to hold ou in, this is fortunate as the narrative itself is the problem.
the basic storyline is that there is a self made man who makes friends with a "gentleman" after a scandel. this gentleman has a sister and with her help he offers to assist the selfmade man in getting revenge on the "society" people who have shunned him.
The question is does everything come down to sex. is there a couple out there who are universally desired, is everyone seducable. after the build up, which i enjoyed I was depressed that the answer was simply to film them having sex and that this couple could and did persuade everyone to do it with them. what a let down.
There were some excelent twists in the tale but the lack of morals by everyone and the fact that this couple were desirable by all. It just put a dampner on it
