Secondo film di Pier Paolo Pasolini , > Mamma Roma è ambientato nel sottoproletariato romano.Dopo il matrimonio,Carmine,protettore di Mamma Roma,decide di lasciare libera la prostituta di rifarsi una nuova vita.Mamma Roma non vede l'ora di chiudere con il passato, si riprende il figlio Ettore ,che viveva fuori città e si mette a vendere frutta e verdura al mercato rionale.Ma il vecchio protettore non la lascia in pace e vorrebbe che tornasse sulla strada.Le cose precipitano quando il figlio scopre il passato della madre e decide di lasciare il lavoro per mettersi a rubare .Il tentativo di Mamma Roma di ricostruirsi una vita rispettabile sembra ineluttabilmente destinato a fallire. Mamma Roma es una prostituta que sueña con un bienestar pequeño-burgués. Tras la boda de su protector, se traslada con su hijo Héctor a un barrio decente, donde regenta un puesto de frutas en el mercadillo popular.
